After sharing and reflecting on your lesson plans in class, what insights about lesson planning and lesson delivery will you carry into your next placement?
I really enjoyed showing another TC one of my lesson plans and seeing theirs because when you're writing them, all the input if from very experienced teachers and it was nice to have an alternative perspective. Her lesson plan was also for a Grade 1 class, so it was nice to hear about her successful and less-successful plans, and how she was going to change them this term. Even when I was speaking about my "successes" I always had the moments where I could have changed something slightly to make it better, tighter, more concise - I just always think there is room to reflect and improve! We are both excited to write a more condensed lesson plan that would be more practical and more reflective of what you would do in the field. The long lesson plans were useful in teaching us the why's of planning and now I feel like I can be more focused on the synthesizing of knowledge and experience I gained, hopefully creating plans I can use for years to come!
I also had many conversations with other TCs - from my previous cohort and new cohort - and consistently TCs were talking how ambitious their lesson plans were and how they needed to adjust teaching expectations. Across the board, that "Goldilocks" zone was hard to hit - most people expected a single lesson plan would either have more impact to student learning or would have landed better in terms of where their students were. Because of this I will be more thoughtful about pre-assessments, and really making more specific notes on what my AT is able to achieve in what amount of time and how often knowledge is repeated. Lots to learn!
