1. What is the overarching purpose of assessment within the K-12 context? (this was your minds-on from the lecture video).

"Assessment = to know where your students are and help them get to where they need to be. It gives us a baseline, target and finish line - though I am a bigger fan of feedback that isn’t grade oriented."

The above was verbatim, but now in week 8 I can say that my response was inadequately short. I was, in a roundabout way, saying assessment should be done for the student’s learning. In a class this year, a peer said to me that teaching is just tests, tests, tests, tests and then more tests, and at the time I vehemently disagreed, and though he was exclusively talking about lower order, memorization type tests, if we include assessment of, for, and as he's not that far off!
